This morning’s SF Chronicle reports that in his speech last night, Romney said, “President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans and heal the planet. My promise …is to help you and your family.”
I would say that our family includes the oceans and the planet. Not to recognize that is the worst cruelty. Adam David Miller in his poem: Recipe, a Love Poem states,
“Our only crime can be
the acceptance of cruelty,
an ignorance of berries and of beets” from Land Between, p. 112 (adamdavidmillerpoet.com)
Dave and Essie (my step-grandson and his wife) came over last and we had a discussion about identity. Since they are mixed race people in a mixed race couple, they have a lot to say on the issue. Essie mentioned that it gets tiresome to have people unable to just get to know you before they have to know how to categorize you.
So in my profile just now compiled I started with, I am one of the live ones. I heard that phrase from Wes Nisker last night at the Insight Meditation Center (he borrowed it from someone else whose name I can’t remember). One of the live ones–is that enough to go on? Let’s start with that anyway!
This is my very first post. I hope to write about encounters, chance and otherwise with news, people, plays, the sky. Whatever wanders into the Between of me and whatever, that space where creativity and love live.
